PLAY Airlines Ceases Operations
Immediately following the announcement, Keflavík Airport activated its contingency plan for airline cessation, which is now being implemented. A total of 12 PLAY flights were canceled at KEF today—six departures and six arrivals—impacting approximately 1,750 passengers. Airport staff at KEF have been assisting PLAY passengers on site, providing updates on the situation and informing them of their rights in line with guidance from the Icelandic Transport Authority.
KEF’s parking service has sent instructions to Play’s passengers who have cars booked in the airport’s parking lots on how to pay for additional days due to Play’s closure. It is not possible to change a booking after the car has been parked. The difference can be paid on the Autopay website within two days after leaving the parking lot. KEF’s parking service can be contacted here if questions arise.
In recent years, Play has transported numerous passengers through Keflavík Airport and has been an important link in the development of tourism in Iceland.
Outstanding commercial debts owed by PLAY to Keflavík Airport are limited to the months of August and September. Isavia is currently reviewing available legal options to pursue collection of these claims.
Information on passenger rights and next steps can be found on the Icelandic Transport Authority website.
